Cairns and Far North Environment Centre (CAFNEC) is a not-for-profit incorporated association that acts as conservation council for the Far North Queensland region. Its territory stretches from Cardwell north to Torres Strait and out to the Gulf of Carpentaria.
The FNQ region contains some of the world’s most precious environmental sites, including the world’s largest living structure, Great Barrier Reef, and the world’s oldest continuing surviving rainforests. CAFNEC works to protect the environment by enhancing the capacity of local groups and community members, empowering them to act for conservation, strengthening networks to foster region-wide cooperation. They also coordinate campaigns and direct action on issues that are significant for the local area.
